Pickett, Donati finish on top of groups

NORTHERN players Graeme Pickett and Peter Donati both qualified on top of their groups in the Tasmanian snooker championships at the Burnie Club over the weekend and will progress to the quarter-finals in two weeks.
Defending state champion Les Higgins, Gregg Watt, Steve Carroll and Anthony Adams, all from the South, as well as Brian Cole and Callam Bissett, of the North-West, also qualified for the quarter-finals.Donati's group was extremely close, with three players finishing on two wins and one loss, all with a plus-three frame differential. Donati finished on top of the group winning eight frames, while South's Phil Woodham missed out, having lost his match to Bissett 3-1.

NORTHERN Tasmanian players to contest the state snooker championship at the Burnie Club this weekend are Graeme Pickett, Peter Donati, Gary Bjarnoe Elliott, Robin McEnnulty and Keith Coomber.
Defending state champion the South is represented by Les Higgins, Gregg Watt, Steve Carroll, Luke Webb, Phil Woodham and Anthony Adams.
The North-West team includes Callan Bissett, Peter Spencer, Brian Cole, Denny Mayne and Joe Bonnici.
In the Southern Tasmanian championship defending champion Les Higgins beat rival Gregg Watt to win his 19th Southern snooker title five frames to two.

NORTHERN players selected to play in the John Hanson Shield at the Launceston Works Club over this weekend of August 13-14 are - Snooker: Rolf Stevenson, Andrew Saltmarsh, Lionel Young, Steve Leary, Trevor Leary, Adrian White. Billiards: Wayne Purdon and Barry Glover.
